MacOS PPP Dial-up Setup

Basic Software Requirements

Macintosh system 7.0 or later contains the following essential components. Any system prior to 7.0 will require a third party TCP/IP stack to facilitate the PPP connection. This document deals only with Macintosh's MacTCP.

  • MacTCP - Control Panel Folder
  • MacTCP Prep - Preferences Folder
  • MacTCP DNR - System Folder

PPP Installation

  1. Insert disk one of the MacOS (system 7.0 or later)
  2. Move the contents of the PPP Software folder to your system folder icon and click OK
  3. Move the contents of the PPP Preferences folder from your System Folder to your Preferences
  4. Shutdown and restart the Macintosh.

MacTCP Configuration

  1. Go to the Control Panels Folder and open the MacTCP control panel
  2. Highlight the PPP Icon under MacTCP and click on the More button
  3. Select the Server button from the Obtain Address field
  4. In the IP Address field, Select Class C
  5. In the IP Address field, Input 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask
  6. In the Domain Name Server field enter your domain (i.e. izap.com)
  7. In the IP address column enter 154.6.115.10
  8. In the secondary IP address column enter 154.6.115.20
  9. Click OK and close the Control Panel
  10. Restart the Macintosh

PPP Configuration

  1. Open the Config PPP Control Panel
  2. Click on New and enter your POP server name (Internet Zap)
  3. Select the port your modem is connected to
  4. Select 15 minutes as your idle Time-out
  5. Select Off for Echo Interval
  6. Select the Hang-up on Close check box
  7. Click the Config button
  8. Select the CTS & RTS (DTR) for/or your Flow Control
  9. Select a port speed for your modem
  10. Choose the dial method.
  11. In the Phone num test box enter the local access number for your ISP Izap  (use "*70", to disable call waiting)
  12. Consult your modem's manual to enter the correct Modem Initialization string
  13. Enter a modem connect time-out of 60 seconds
  14. Click the IPCP Options button and edit the fields as shown below in Table 1
  15. Click OK
  16. Click the Authentication button
  17. Enter your ID/Login name (5037login name)
  18. Enter your password
  19. Click OK
  20. Click Done
